Behind the scenes of the 2026 UCI Road Cycling World Championships
In September 2026, Montreal will once again take center stage, welcoming more than 1,000 elite riders from 75 nations for the UCI Road World Championships. It’s a return to glory 52 years after the city last hosted the event in 1974, and this time, the world will be watching live, online, and from the roadside.
Behind the scenes, a dedicated team is already turning plans into action. We spoke with Karine Leroux, Client Service Manager at ATPI, to hear how she and her team are working closely with the LOC and Mondiaux2026 to deliver one of the most complex and high-profile sporting events Canada has seen since the 1976 Olympics. “We’re here to make sure Montreal shines on the global stage,” Karine says. “From flights and hotels to transfers and booking tools, our job is to remove the noise so teams can focus on what matters.”
Winning starts early
When athletes, staff, fans, and media arrive from 75 different countries, success depends on preparation. “These teams travel with strict needs, equipment, meals, fixed schedules,” Karine explains. “Planning early means we secure the right rooms, rates, and conditions. No surprises later.” In 2024, the ATPI team was already on-site at the UCI Congress in Zurich. But they weren’t just handing out flyers, they were making personal connections with national federations. “We called it our ‘seduction operation,’” says Karine. “We showed up. We listened. We came home with real insight, and trust.”
Solving problems before they start
Major events bring major complexity. The UCI comes with a 248-page organization guide. Every room, every space, every condition must meet the standard.
“The Major Events Manager flew in from Switzerland,” Karine says. “We walked every floor. Checked every detail. Because good enough isn’t good enough, it has to be right.” Room blocks are another challenge. With fluctuating group sizes, federations need flexibility, while hotels need certainty. “It’s a balancing act,” she explains. “We negotiate with both sides to secure fair rates without losing options. That way, our clients stay in control.”
Technology that keeps things moving
Behind the personal service is smart tech that keeps operations smooth. A dedicated booking platform gives each federation direct access to manage reservations. Meanwhile, the ATPI team handles the logistics, room blocks, inventory, payments, and changes, quietly in the background. “Our goal is simple,” says Karine. “No confusion. No frustration. Just a clear, easy experience from booking to arrival.”
Trusted by teams that compete at the highest level
Federations don’t want just another supplier. They want a partner who knows what it takes to move a team. “They expect us to be proactive, reliable, and human,” Karine says. “They trust us to handle the chaos, so the athletes don’t have to As part of the peloton, ATPI puts all its energy into making sure athletes, families, and fans remember the unique experience of this grand event in Montreal.” As part of the peloton, ATPI puts all its energy into making sure athletes, families, and fans remember the unique experience of this grand event in Montreal.
Ready for the start line
Montreal hasn’t hosted an event of this scale in decades. But for Karine and her team, it’s the kind of challenge ATPI was built for. “We’re ready,” she says. “And when the starting gun fires, our job is done, because our riders are where they need to be.”
Success on the world stage doesn’t happen by chance, it starts with smart planning.
