Clean cooking programme

More efficient cookstoves improve health and reduce emissions.

  • The project manufactures and distributes market leading fuel-efficient biomass stoves rather than firewood and charcoal in open fires which produce indoor air pollution and release emissions into the atmosphere.
  • This enables rural families across sub-Saharan Africa to cook using cleaner, more efficient cookstoves, and leading to avoided forest degradation, lower emissions and better community health.
  • The cookstoves dramatically reduce toxic smoke exposure in the home, saving lives, cutting CO2 emissions and reducing household expenses.
  • It is the first high spec, affordable cookstove manufactured in Africa and its design has been recognised in the Ashden sustainability awards for empowering women with new economic opportunities.
  • Almost 1 million stoves sold to date and 5 million tonnes of wood saved to date.
  • 400 people are employed in sales, manufacturing and distribution – 60% of whom are women
  • Reduced fuel consumption by up to 45% and cooking time by up to 50%.
  • Investors in this project can choose to fund cookstoves in just one of the African jurisdictions, or they can spread the funding across all.
