Biomass – Everest Starch Facility

Generating clean energy from biomass and biogas in rural India.
Indian biomass everest 2

The Everest Starch facility in Rajkot, Gujarat is a renewable energy project that uses agricultural by-products and wastewater to power starch manufacturing operations more sustainably. Instead of coal, the facility uses groundnut shell biomass to generate steam, and captures biogas from wastewater to produce electricity, improving energy efficiency while avoiding emissions.

Certified under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the project delivers an average annual emissions reduction of 26,457 tCO₂e..

This circular, localised energy model reduces fossil fuel reliance and supports over 300 local jobs, while creating additional income streams for regional vendors who supply renewable biomass.

  • Biomass and biogas replace coal and grid electricity
  • 26,457 tCO₂e avoided per year
  • 300+ jobs created in rural Gujarat
  • Agricultural waste is converted into clean energy
  • Supports local vendors and community resilience
