An evolving travel management industry: Marjan reflects on 30 years at ATPI

Travel management industry evolution

This September, Marjan van Vliet, Head of Benelux Account Management, celebrates an incredible milestone: 30 years at ATPI.

Marjan’s journey began in 1995 as a Business Travel Consultant. Over the years, she advanced through roles in operations and account management, from Supervisor and Office Manager to Commercial Head of Marine & Energy Travel. Since 2023, she has led the Benelux Account Management team.

Her career path reflects not only dedication and expertise but also the ability to adapt and lead in a rapidly evolving industry.

A career to be proud of

Looking back, Marjan sees her story as one of constant growth and contribution.

“There are many moments I look back on with pride, but what stands out most is that I have always grown along with the company. Whether it was setting up a new department, guiding colleagues, or completing a complex project, I’ve always felt that I could truly contribute to the development of ATPI.”

For Marjan, it’s the people who make the difference. Building long-term client relationships, developing innovative solutions, and collaborating across ATPI’s international network have been key drivers in her career.

“That international aspect makes the work especially inspiring. With all the acquisitions, market changes, and different roles I’ve had, my career at ATPI has been anything but monotonous. One employer, but an entire series of new chapters.”

Transformation of the industry

Few industries have evolved as rapidly as travel management, and Marjan has witnessed that transformation first-hand.

“Digitalisation has completely changed the way we work. Where everything used to be manual – tickets, invoicing, even communication – now almost everything is automated. And clients expect more: speed, customisation, and sustainability are at the forefront.”

From paper tickets and fax machines to seamless online booking platforms, the industry has reinvented itself. ATPI has evolved alongside it, developing smart technology to keeptravellers moving, while solutions such as ATPI Halo give clients the tools to measure and reduce their CO₂ emissions.

The ATPI spirit

When asked what makes ATPI different, Marjan doesn’t hesitate:

“What makes ATPI unique is that, despite our growth, we have always remained personal. The freedom to develop yourself, the dynamism of the Marine & Energy sector, and the collaboration with colleagues and clients worldwide have always motivated me to keep growing.”

This people-first spirit is part of ATPI’s DNA. Many of our team members have celebrated decades of service, and their loyalty reflects the culture of support, collaboration, and opportunity that defines ATPI.

Looking ahead

The future of travel management will bring new challenges, but also new opportunities.

“I believe business travel will increasingly focus on smart, sustainable choices. Technology will continue to evolve, but personal service will remain essential. ATPI has the knowledge and network to keep playing a leading role – precisely because of that combination of innovation and humanity.”

Celebrating 30 years of impact

We are proud to celebrate Marjan’s 30-year journey at ATPI. Her leadership, expertise, and passion for people have shaped our success across the Benelux region and beyond.

Thank you, Marjan, for your dedication and drive. We look forward to the next chapter, together shaping the future of travel management.
