Shipping travel business launches sustainability consultancy to support clients in reaching emissions reduction targets

Specialist travel management company, ATPI Marine & Energy, is adding a new division, ATPI Halo, to support the shipping industry in decarbonisation and reaching its sustainability goals. In celebration of the launch, the business has announced that it is working towards achieving carbon neutral status, with a clear path to achieve that goal mapped out for 2021 and beyond.

Launching today on World Maritime Day (30 September 2021), ATPI Halo will act as an incubator for new ideas and services focused around improving sustainability standards, designed specifically to support marine and energy organisations.

Ian Sinderson, ATPI Group CEO, said:

“Research among shipping businesses has shown that crew travel can account for up to one sixth of a company’s total greenhouse gas emissions. However, many plans towards decarbonisation do not include steps to apply greener choices in travel or indeed reduce crew travel altogether. Our mission is to ensure that approaches to reducing environmental impact are holistic, and that crew travel is factored into planning and carbon emissions reporting.”

For maritime businesses, ATPI Halo’s specialist sustainability consultancy looks at all elements of crew travel, from proactive planning of shorter and/or faster routes served by greener aircraft, to accurate post-trip emissions reporting, as well as carbon offsetting.

ATPI Halo supports clients in the marine and energy industry to reduce their impact on the environment across all areas of business – including crew travel and crew changes. New services on offer include a bespoke and accredited carbon offsetting programme, ensuring that schemes are relevant to a client’s core business. ATPI Halo’s sustainability team has sourced over fifteen esteemed carbon credit projects in the core markets where shipping businesses operate, and where there is also a direct benefit to communities.

ATPI Halo’s sustainability expertise brings robust consultancy to the managed travel sector, ensuring businesses make meaningful inroads towards the goals set out by intergovernmental organisations and national governments worldwide to become net-zero by 2050. ATPI Halo’s team provides counsel and recommendations, including how to effectively reduce travel and revise a travel programme – a first for a travel management company (TMC) – together with carbon neutrality consultancy services backed by accredited partners including Respira and the Climate Neutral Group (CNG). Other partners are also being sought to ensure a complete range of services can be made available to clients.

Sinderson adds:

“ATPI has a long history of being one step ahead and defining new ways of working, particularly in the shipping industry. The business has grown throughout the last 100+ years thanks to a culture of always improving, thinking ahead and investing in new ventures. Our efforts are rooted in delivering exceptional client service for the long term. That means we need to always be open to change, and to support our clients with the right tools to achieve their sustainability goals.

ATPI Marine & Energy has 100 years’ heritage in setting new standards in managing the complexities of crew travel. Crucially, the team is strategically located in the core regions of focus for the marine and energy industries, to allow for both sector and regional expertise, delivering what really matters to its clients.
