ATPI Sports Events Team Counts Down to the Volvo Ocean Race
Published on 2017-10-16 ATPI Sports Events, is less than one week away from embarking on the 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race in its capacity as the worldwide official hospitality agency for Volvo Ocean Race event organisers.
Having been involved in the prestigious round-the-world yacht race for over 16 years, ATPI Sports Events’ team of experts will be managing travel arrangements for a number of teams of professional ocean race sailors – including two Dutch and one Danish – in addition to a number of the Volvo Ocean Race partners and boatyard suppliers throughout the nine-month event.
The ATPI Sports Events team will coordinate the bespoke travel and hospitality programmes of over 5,000 people across the 12 stops ahead of the first leg starting on 22 October 2017 until the race’s conclusion on 30 June 2018 in the Hague. Based at the Volvo Ocean Race headquarters in Alicante and supported by local teams across Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and South Africa, ATPI Sports Events will manage travel activity from flights, transfers and offsite excursions to private spectator boats, tours of the race village and dinners on behalf of a number of Volvo Ocean Race global stakeholders including sponsors, teams, suppliers and partners.
With a race village at each leg the dedicated team is also responsible for managing meetings, events and dinners at each of these venues, including boatyard tours and corporate hospitality packages for supporters.
Jurrie van den Berg, general manager client services, ATPI Sports Events, said:
“After months of meticulous planning and with the Volvo Ocean Race now just days away, we’re looking forward to supporting the world’s best sailors as they battle it out across 45,000 nautical miles in one of the toughest sailing challenges. Having previously coordinated hospitality for 10,500 guests in just one of the 2014-15 race’s two-day stopovers, there’s no doubt that our team is well placed to deliver our trademark hospitality and we are looking forward to supporting the event organisers.”
Karin Bäcklund, Executive Director, Volvo Ocean Race, added:
“This is the first time ATPI Sports Events has worked alongside us as the global travel and hospitality partner. It is reassuring to know they are able to bring their insight and logistical expertise from their experience working with competing teams in previous editions. With our teams set to compete across four oceans, six continents and twelve host cities in unpredictable conditions, it’s vital that we can rely on their specialist knowledge to maximise their enjoyment of this exceptional racing event.”
