Published on 2017-05-31 The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) has appointed two Authorised Travel Agents (ATA) to assist spectators with travel packages for their 4-15 April 2018 Games experience.
As ATAs, Flight Centre Travel Group (using brands Flight Centre, Escape Travel and Travel Associates) and ATPI Sports Events have the exclusive rights to sell Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) travel packages in Australia and a number of other Commonwealth nations and territories.
The ATAs have been assisting with travel and experience options through the ticket request phase period and from June 1 will start to promote travel packages which include Games ticketing.
The appointment of the ATAs ensures a streamlined experience for domestic and international visitors to the Gold Coast and across Queensland as a GC2018 spectator.
GOLDOC Chairman, Peter Beattie AC:
“The travel packages will include flights, ground transport and accommodation initially; and from tomorrow the ATA’s will be promoting travel packages which will include Games tickets.
“These packages (including Games Tickets) will be available for purchase in late June.
“As well as Games related travel options, both ATAs can book tickets and/or entry to major Queensland attractions and destination experiences on the Gold Coast, throughout Queensland and around Australia,” Mr Beattie said.
Flight Centre Travel Group Executive General Manager of Leisure Travel, Tom Walley:
“As an official GC2018 ATA we are pleased to be able to offer our customers the chance to enjoy the entire Queensland experience beyond the sporting stadiums and competition venues.
“This is a great chance to promote the Gold Coast as one of Australia's leading holiday destinations to both our domestic and international travellers.
“After the initial ticket request phase we will sell tickets as event packages with accommodation included, so whether it's for the family or a luxury stay, we'll be able to help our customers find the best accommodation options on the Gold Coast, in event cities and surrounds to suit their needs.”
ATPI CEO, Graham Ramsey:
“We are very proud to be an ATA for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games that is now under 12 months away.
“The appointment of ATPI is a testament to the expertise of our Australian team and their local knowledge.
“We are confident that our long-standing association with sporting bodies, our proven sporting event management service model and extensive travel experience will ensure that we offer the best possible services to all those involved with GC2018 so they can in turn cheer on the athletes in their quest for sporting success.”
GOLDOC CEO, Mark Peters:
“ATPI and Flight Centre are currently receiving expressions of interest for these services through the GC2018 website and via their own channels.
“At this stage the ATA’s are mainly dealing with travel and accommodation queries and their activity will ramp up later this month when they are able to promote their travel packages inclusive of Games Tickets.”
