Visiting Chicago with United Airlines

Our trip to Chicago began with a smooth and stress-free check in at United’s dedicated Polaris business class check in desks, after which we headed straight for the lounge. It was the perfect pre-flight experience; stylish and comfortable so that we could really relax before take-off. The lounge also incorporated a large food hall, offering hot and cold meals, as well as fresh fruit, baked goods. A clink of champagne glasses officially marked the start of the trip – it was time to board!
In the clouds
Once boarding the aircraft, we settled into our spacious business class seats to enjoy our Saks Fifth Avenue bedding, luxury slippers and amenities and hot, lavender towel. Drinks and nibbles were served ahead of our evening meal, which turned out to be the most delicious pasta dish that wouldn’t have been out of place in an Italian restaurant. A trip to the ice cream sundae bar rounded the evening off perfectly and sent everyone off to sleep with a smile on their face.
The windy city
After touching down in Chicago we were picked up from the airport and taken straight to the Omni hotel on Michigan Avenue, where we quickly got to know our suites before getting ready for a busy day of exploring.
We awoke to a beautifully sunny day and after a huge breakfast we were taken on a guided bike ride along Lake Michigan, with sites including Chicago zoo, Oprah’s apartment, the original playboy mansion and Abraham Lincoln park. We stopped for lunch at Navy Pier before a boat ride along Chicago river. We topped the day off with a great night at a notable steak restaurant and cocktails at a rooftop bar enabled us to drink in the very best views Chicago has to offer.
The next day began with a visit to United Airlines headquarters in the Willis Tower, the tallest building in Chicago - we were told that on a windy day it’s not unusual for employees to notice their coffee swaying in its cup! After a very informative tour around all departments, from social media to meteorology, we headed for the skies and visited the building’s Skydeck glass observatory, where you can see four states on a clear day!
With the trip coming to a close, we headed to the business class lounge at Chicago O’Hare airport for a few final drinks and snacks – saving room for our in-flight meal, of course. Thoroughly worn out from such a world-wind trip, everyone enjoyed a restful sleep and it felt like no time at all until we landed at Heathrow.
Once back on British soil, a few of the group checked into the United’s arrivals lounge for breakfast and a shower to refresh and recharge, before saying our goodbyes to what was a thoroughly fantastic trip courtesy of United Airlines.
