Sports events have long been a key
fixture of the ATP business model
around the world. In this article we
review not only the latest
developments but how they can
integrate into your plans for 2008.
Even before the Beckhams and the
‘Galacticos’ of Real Madrid, sport and
business have been closely intertwined;
from a deal concluded on the golf course to
a day at the races for a key business partner.
The fiercely competitive nature combined
with the ability to share a beer after the
game has made it a natural match for the
world of business; the only difference today
is the scale.
100,000 tickets for the Olympic Games
Fresh from taking over 2,000 business
people to the World Cup last summer, our
Dutch team are now ramping up for the
2008 Olympics in Beijing, easily the largest
single sporting event in the world.
Fortunately we are old hands, this being the
sixth games that ATP have been involved
with since 1998, selling over 100,000 tickets
in total. This year ATP is not only the official
supplier to the Dutch Olympic Committee
but also the Dutch Sporting Federation; this
gives us an extremely significant level of
access for ATP clients around the world. As
you read this, we are already negotiating to increase the 100 hotel nights we have for
every night of the games.
Football in Europe
The UK sports events team concentrate
most of their efforts on football. This year, as
well as dealing with the start of a new
season, some brand new Premiership teams
to talk to plus the challenges arising from the
Italian Serie A debacle; the team have
launched not one but two new websites.
Each of the two new sites targets a
different type of ATP sporting client. For
those involved in the business of sport,
particularly our Premiership Football Club
clients, the sports pages of the main ATP site
have been updated and can be seen at
www.atpi.com/sports
In addition to this, a brand new site
www.footballpackages.co.uk has been
launched to further enhance ATP’s
leadership position in the football weekend
market. ATP football package clients vary
from individuals and couples looking for a
weekend break with a difference to some of
the largest companies in the country looking
to offer clients or colleagues a memorable
weekend watching, for example, Real
Madrid taking on Barcelona in the
magnificent 100,000 seat Bernabau Stadium.
