Around The World With ATP
Continuing our regular feature looking at ATP across the globe, we visit our GlobalStar partner in Singapore, Global Travel Pte.

ATP are a key member of GlobalStar Travel Management, a worldwide partnership of leading travel management companies, linked together in a formal business structure.

Home to the nostalgic Raffles Hotel and world famous for its Singapore Sling cocktails, Singapore is undoubtedly one of the key financial commercial and transportation centres in the Far East. It was in fact, one of the first countries to join the GlobalStar network back in 2002.

ATP's GlobalStar partner in Singapore, Global Travel Pte Ltd, was formed in 1975 and with a turnover of over £39 million in 2005 is one of the biggest travel agencies in the country. It is also the Asia Pacific Head Office for GlobalStar. The overall business consists of an inbound ground handling operation, holiday business and a business travel agency. The holiday side of the business is not uncommon in agencies in the Far East where the location is also a popular tourist as well as business destination.

Home to 100 staff Its offices in Singapore's Central Business District are opposite the famous Lau Pa Sat old market and are home to 100 staff who handle corporate travel, sales and marketing. MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) and its leisure travel subsidiary Scenic Travel.

Managing Director of Global Travel Peter Choo started his working life with SAS in 1969 and is a well-respected figure in the travel industry in Singapore. He was the first ever President of the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS) back in 1979 and was awarded the Honorary Life Membership of NATAS in April this year in recognition of his contribution towards the Association and the travel industry in Singapore.

Global Travel's 600 clients cover every spectrum of the economy in Singapore and the agency is justifiably proud of the fact that it has been on the list of appointed agents to handle the Singapore Government's travel since 1985.

An excellent relationship with ATP Despite the distance between the UK and Singapore, Global Travel and ATP enjoy a good working relationship. "There has always been very close links between the UK and Singapore and we have an excellent relationship with ATP," says Peter. "Our team have nothing but praise for the service and professionalism they receive from Cliff Fletcher and his team. We also work well with Adam Knights on new accounts we are consolidating globally."

Peter is also Chairman of GlobalStar Travel Management Asia Pacific Pte, enjoying an excellent rapport with ATP's Director Robert Morgan who serves on the Global Board for GlobalStar alongside him.

Locally negotiated fares Savings on air fares are achieved at both ends of the market. "Global Travel has access to locally negotiated fares from Singapore to a multitude of destinations," comments ATP's Sales Director Adam Knights. "This benefits ATP clients who are doing "intra Asia" trips or side trips from Singapore where historically we would only have been able to offer a regulated fare from the UK."
Singapore has operated in a zero commission environment for some years now. Major carriers offer their regular clients discounted fares, depending on their volume. With legacy airlines competing amongst themselves and with low cost carriers this means there are constant changes in airfares. Apart from buying tickets from ATP for clients with extended stays in the UK, tickets are also purchased for travel ex UK to Singapore for family members and students.

Comparisons to be made instantly Our specialist fares desk looks at all multi-sector bookings and checks the GlobalStar FareStar product for these fares. (All GlobalStar agents load their own negotiated fares into one central system enabling comparisons to be made instantly). Where cheaper fares exist, ATP arrange for Global Travel to issue an e-ticket.
Global Travel also has the ability to consolidate data globally through the GlobalStar DataStar reporting tool which allows global reporting for any ATP clients choosing to use our partner in Singapore or indeed anywhere in the world.

In an age of security concerns and increased requirements on data capture, consolidation is an increasingly important and worthwhile exercise. As well as cost savings, DataStar is another example of how ATP clients benefit from GlobalStar Travel Management and its network of leading travel management companies in more than 50 countries across the globe.
